Grass snake (Natrix natrix) feigning death. This non-venomous snake lives in meadows,marshes and on the edge of rivers,streams and canals. It feeds on frogs,toads and newts. It has a forked tongue (black),which it uses as a sense organ to smell the presence of prey. When disturbed,grass snakes often feign death by remaining still,usually with their mouths open as seen.
