Two green turtles (Chelonia mydas) swimming above a coral reef. They are at a cleaning station,an area of reef where smaller fish pick parasites from the skin of larger animals. One small cleaner fish is seen beneath the turtle at upper right. The green turtle lives in warm seas throughout the world. It stays close to coasts for most of its life, eating the plants which are abundant there. It may reach a length of over 150 centimetres. Despite its entirely aquatic existence, the female returns to a beach to lay her eggs, almost always the beach where she herself was born. Photographed in Sipadan,Malaysia | |
