South American common toad (Rhinella margaritifer) on the forest floor. The camouflage of these toads mimics the dead leaves and leaf litter that they spend most of their time in. It is so effective that they can sit completely still for long periods, even when predators are near by. Photographed in the Amazon rainforest at the Tiputini Biodiversity Station,Ecuador | |
