White's sea horse (Hippocampus whitei) near seaweed (Sargassum sp.). This fish is found in the south-western Pacific,in weedy, shallow areas and seagrass beds or on sponges. It feeds on tiny invertebrates, which it sucks in through its long snout. The male sea horse possesses a pouch,in which the female lays her eggs. These are then fertilised and incubated inside the pouch. Photographed near Sydney,Australia | |
