Blue-spotted fantail ray (Taeniura lymma) on the seabed. This ray inhabits the Indo-Pacific,and spends most of its time buried in the sand or under ledges. It breathes through spiracles that are located below its eyes (lower centre and lower right). It has two poisonous stings (not seen) near the end of its tail, which can inject venom. It does not use this weapon on its prey, but solely in defence. Photographed in the Red Sea | |
