Whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus) resting on the sea bed. This sluggish shark inhabits the warm, shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific region and is often found resting in caves or under coral ledges during the day. It feeds on other fish, octopuses and crustaceans. Its common name is derived from the white marks often found on the ends of the dorsal fins. The whitetip rarely attacks humans, but is potentially dangerous when threatened. Photographed off Sipadan Island,Malaysia | |
