Giant cuttlefish (Sepia apama) males fighting during the breeding season. This cuttlefish inhabits coastal waters around southern Australia. It is one of the largest of the cuttlefish, reaching a length of over 50 centimetres and weighing up to 5 kilograms. During the Australian winter, thousands of these cuttlefish congregate off the coast of Whyalla,South Australia,to breed and lay eggs. The area has the hard, rocky surface that the cuttlefish need to lay their eggs on,and so they migrate to this region from great distances | |
