Giant clam (Tridacna gigas). This is the largest living bivalve mollusc, the shells of mature individuals reaching 1.5 metres in length. The giant clam can filter microscopic plants and animals from the water, but it obtains most of its food from photosynthetic symbiotic algae which live in its tissues.
