Flea circus. Artwork of a human flea (Pulex irritans) wearing a dress. This painting decorates the trailer of Hans Mathes' Flea Circus. The circus features trained fleas performing a range of tricks, including kicking balls, pulling miniature carriages and dancing in tiny costumes. The stunts rely on the natural strength and jumping ability of the fleas, which can move objects up to 20,000 times their own body weight and jump 20 centimetres into the air. The circus plays to audiences inside a specially designed trailer for two weeks a year,at the Munich Oktoberfest in Germany. The fleas are viewed through a magnifying glass | |
