Lacewing eggs. Cluster of eggs of the green or common lacewing, family Chrysopidae, attached to the underside of a dill plant stem. Green lacewing eggs are on the tips of long silken stalks to prevent the first larvae that hatch from eating the other eggs. These eggs have a fungus-like appearance and were once even classed as fungi and given the scientific name Ascophora ovalis. There are about 2000 species of this predatory insect | |
