Termite mound. Termite mounds are honeycombed with chambers and passages. They may project up to seven metres above the ground as well as having subterranean sections. The walls of the mound are composed of soil cemented together with the saliva and excrement of the termites. Each mound houses a colony comprised of a large queen,a smaller king and up to ten thousand smaller workers and soldiers. These social insects feed on dead and decaying vegetation.
