Some of these legs consists of gills that are used to breathe. This is one of the hind legs. The exoskeleton of a woodlice,like all arthropods,is formed mainly from a substance called chitin. This exoskeleton covers its body and legs. Woodlice (order Isopoda) are terrestrial crustaceans that require damp conditions in order to breathe properly.
