Amoeba protozoan feeding. First in a series of 4 light micrographs showing a single celled Amoeba sp. (at bottom left) engulfing another protozoan,Paramecium sp.(at centre right). The amoeba has extended a pseudopodium (false foot) to attack its prey. The pseudopodium is formed from the flexible wall of the amoeba cell. The paramecium will be engulfed and digested within a cavity (vacuole) within the amoeba cell. This form of feeding is known as phagocytosis. Magnification: x43 at 35mm size.
