1920s box camera. Box camera being used in 1929 by Grace Anna Goodhue Coolidge (1879-1957),wife of the US President and First Lady of the USA. Box cameras were a type of early portable camera. Box cameras used a simple lens, and lacked features such as a flash,or control over aperture size and shutter speed. A box camera using roll film was introduced by Kodak in 1888,but it was not until the 1950s that box cameras with flashes were produced,so the use of box cameras was limited to outdoor photography. Grace Coolidge (nee Goodhue),married Calvin Coolidge in 1905. She served as First Lady from 3rd August 1923 to 4th March 1929,while her husband was US President.
