Horse jump. High-speed photographic sequence of a silhouetted rider jumping a hurdle on a horse (Equus caballus). The sequence,made by the British-American photographer Eadweard James Muybridge (1830-1904),is from an album of photographs taken in Palo Alto,California,USA,from 1872-79. The jump runs from left to right from top left. Muybridge pioneered the use of high-speed photography,using novel techniques to analyse animal and human locomotion.
