Cart horse. High-speed photograph of the silhouette of a trotting horse (Equus caballus) pulling a cart. This image was taken by the British-American photographer Eadweard James Muybridge (1830-1904). Muybridge pioneered the use of high-speed photography and employed ingenious techniques to analyse animal and human locomotion. He began his work on high-speed photography when he was commissioned to find out if a galloping horse has all its feet off the ground at certain times.
