Moon craters drawn by the British clergyman and astronomer Thomas William Webb (1807-1885). One crater (centre right) is named "Egede". The large crater to its left (with a smaller crater on its edge) is the Aristoteles crater. Webb made his astronomical observations in his spare time at his vicarage in Hardwick, near Wales. He published many of his observations in Celestial Objects for Common Telescopes (1859),a widely published guide for amateur astronomers. The mapping of the Moon with telescopes started with Galileo in 1610,and then developed further during the 17th,18th and 19th centuries as telescopes improved | |
