Movie camera. Technicolor three-colour movie camera which was first used in 1934. Cameras such as this allowed motion pictures to be produced in a full life-like spectrum of colour. Movies had previously been filmed using a process that was only sensitive to two colours (red & green). In the new process, images received through the lens (lower left) were directed onto three strips of monochrome film. This was done by a mirror/prism splitter (not seen) placed behind the lens. Each strip of film was sensitive to a different primary colour (red, green or blue). The resulting images were later merged into one,in order to create a single coloured image | |
