Bayeux Tapestry Scene. William the Conqueror (on a hawking expedition) riding a horse,accompanied by some nobles and his dogs. Photographed from a book printed in 1821. The Bayeux Tapestry measures 70m long by 49.5cm high and shows scenes from the conquest of England by William in 1066. The piece is falsely named as it is actually an embroidery (of wool on canvas or linen) and was probably made in England (during 1073-1083 AD). William had few of the luxuries often associated with monarchy. Clothes were made either of wool or of linen.
