MODEL RELEASED. Water treatment. Technician with a "Living Machine" ecological water treatment system. This passes waste water through a series of tanks in a greenhouse. The tanks make up an ecosystem, each containing hardy plants that can withstand raised pollution levels. The plant roots provide a habitat for many different types of bacteria which can break down pollutants. This means that many more pollutants can be broken down because each individual bacterial species can only break down a limited number of chemicals. In later tanks, the bacteria are consumed by larger organisms before the water is discharged. Photographed at the Body Shop facility at Watersmead,Britain | |
