Copper foundry. Molten copper (orange) inside moulds in a sand-filled barrel. The metal has been melted inside a furnace and poured into the mould to create a copper object in the shape of the mould. The process of using a molten material in this way is known as casting. Copper is a chemical element and a metal, with a melting point of 1084 degrees Celsius. Copper is an easily worked metal that is used extensively in industry,in metal statues, and in alloys. Photographed in the UK. See images T810/256-258 for a sequence showing the pouring of the molten copper into the moulds. T810/260 shows the furnace, while T807/074 shows the mould and the finished product | |
