Plasma vapour deposition. Plasma torch coating the surface of a frying pan by plasma vapour deposition (PVD). PVD introduces alloying elements into the very top layer of the metal. The plasma is a hot stream of ions of the alloying metals needed, and is directed toward the component by an electric field. Here the coating is Cristome,a quasi-crystalline alloy of aluminium and manganese. Cristome has a high resistance to heat and has a low coefficient of friction. Pans coated in it are non-stick,non-scratch and do not allow the formation of hot spots | |
