Ice diving. Two divers emerge through a man-made crack on the surface of frozen Arctic water. A third person pulls a safety rope from the surface. Ice diving is an extreme form of diving where divers must endure sub-zero water temperatures. A dive team will search for an area of ice that is thin enough to cut through using a chainsaw. The divers usually wear several layers of protection, including heated neoprene suits,a drysuit and a full face mask. Due to the conditions and small exit hole, divers must use extra safety precautions, such as the use of a safety rope, and diving only one or two at a time. Arctic waters are abundant in a wide variety of flora and fauna. Photographed in Lancaster Sound,Baffin Island,Canada | |
