MODEL RELEASED. Aeroplane engine maintenance. Engineer checking a Rolls Royce RB211 engine during routine aircraft maintenance. This is the rear of the engine, which is used to power jumbo jet aircraft such as the Boeing 747. It is a turbofan engine in which hot air turns turbine blades (inner circle) to power a fan that draws air in to provide thrust for the aircraft. Surrounding the turbine blades is a mixer shroud (convoluted),which allows efficient mixing of the hot exhaust air from the turbines with slower and cooler bypass air. This increases engine efficiency and reduces noise. The Rolls Royce RB211 engine was developed during the 1960s | |
