Motorway flyovers. These are designed to transport large numbers of motor vehicles, such as cars and lorries. At busy junctions, flyovers help to avoid congestion. Large numbers of roads can have an adverse impact on the environment, contributing to air pollution and also to the urban heat island effect. Urban structures such as roads, buildings and paved areas absorb and emit more heat than natural landscapes. This can affect local weather patterns. This is part of the Marquette Freeway Interchange,Milwaukee,Wisconsin,USA,built in 1968. It carries hundreds of thousands of vehicles a day. It is being rebuilt from 2004-2008 | |
