Intelligent cat's-eyes. View of various models of intelligent cat's-eyes or road studs used to mark out the path of the road ahead. The solar-powered light emitting diodes (LEDs) within these safety devices can be seen 800 metres away at night. The studs can also detect dangerous road conditions and change accordingly. In fog,for example, they shine more brightly, and in icy conditions blue LEDs switch on. Other features include red LEDs that light up if a car is too close to the one in front. The curved cat's-eye at upper centre is a DIRS Nightflasher, while at lower left is a SIRS model (white). These cat's-eyes were developed by Astucia in Nottinghamshire,England | |
