Virtual reality invisibility cloak. This cloak has been developed by Professor Susumu Tachi of the University of Tokyo,Japan, for use in virtual reality systems. It is a retro-reflective cloak that is designed to reflect towards the observer the scene projected on it. The system uses a video camera, computer, and projector to project onto the cloak an image of the background behind the person wearing the cloak. The cloak is covered in special microballs that return incoming light in the exact direction from which it came. Photographed in May 2003,as part of the annual exhibition and conference on VR held in Laval,France. See images T490/313 and T490/414 for a demonstration and a diagram of the system | |
