Wearable computing. Pair of prototype stress- detecting shoes,a type of affective computer. The shoes measure the amount of electricity the skin of the foot conducts using a small voltage applied between two electrodes. When the wearer is frightened or anxious, the skin's conductivity will rise as the sweat glands produce more sweat. Affective computers provide feedback about a person's physical state or behaviour, such as indicating if their wearer's stress levels are too high. These shoes were created at the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),USA | |
