Fabric computer processor. Researcher Maggie Orth (left) and a friend holding fabric which acts as part of a computer processor. Fabrics such as this may be integrated into wearable computer systems. These fabrics contain normal silk threads running one way,and threads wrapped in conducting metal wire running at right angles to them. As the conducting threads are kept separate, the fabric acts as a type of ribbon wire. Components such as capacitors and resistors can be sewn out of this fabric, and more complex components can be attached to the conducting threads. Fabrics such as this can be folded, crumpled and even washed. Orth is a student at MIT Media Laboratory,USA | |
