UNIVAC I operators. US Census Bureau workers operating the first Universal Automatic Computer (UNIVAC I) in the 1950s. This was the first commercial computer made in the US. It was sold to the United States Census Bureau on 31 March 1951,and delivered and installed the next year. The price was USD 159,000,It was designed by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly,and was built by the Remington Rand company. The entire set-up occupied over 35 square metres of floor space.
