Leonardo, the sociable robot, with Professor Cynthia Breazeal. Leonardo has been designed by a collaboration between Breazeal, who works at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Stan Winston Studio. Leonardo follows Breazeal's work with the interactive robot Kismet, which could observe and react to the people around it. It is hoped that Leonardo will be able to do the same, and use its internal computers to learn responses to human actions. Leonardo has 61 degrees of freedom, over half of them in its face, allowing it a wide range of realistic movements and expressions. Photographed in 2003 | |
