Evolving robots. Researchers Sevan Ficici (left) and Richard Watson watch their evolving Tupperbot robots. These infrared light-sensing robots show embodied evolution, evolution within a group of robots. While the researchers want them to move to the light (far right),the robots have not been given these instructions and must evolve this behaviour. Behavioural mutations may aid them in this. If a robot manages to reach the light twice in succession it is deemed to be evolved and may provide guidance to the other 7 robots. Unfit robots that ignore this help are eliminated.
