Los Alamos laboratory during World War 2. In 1943- 45,many of the world's greatest physicists moved to the Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico,USA,to take part in the Manhattan Project, the successful US effort to design and build the first atomic bombs. Despite this, none of the roads at the Los Alamos site were paved until after the war. Although the New Mexico weather was usually bright and warm, rain storms could turn some of the roads into quagmires of mud,as shown here | |
