Offshore wind turbines. These turbines have been built off the coast to take advantage of the wind over the sea. This wind moves the blades of each turbine, rotating them to generate electricity. This is an environmentally-friendly source of energy,as it releases no toxic waste products and does not rely on a limited resource (such as oil) for fuel. These wind turbines (Vesta 2.0 models) are two of thirty at this windfarm (Scroby Sands),built off Great Yarmouth on England's Norfolk coast. Construction was completed in June 2004,and the windfarm came online in November 2004. It supplies 60 megawatts of electrical power, enough energy for some 44,000 homes | |
