| A pipeline carrying steam from one of the well- heads to the main plant at the Nesjavellir geothermal power station,Iceland. The four wells currently in operation here provide enough steam to drive a power plant producing 100 megawatts of exploitable thermal power and a back-pressure turbine generating 2.7 megawatts of electricity. The steam is piped to a condenser at the plant where it is used to heat cold water pumped from wells located 6 kilometres away on the shores of Lake Thingvallavatna.
