MODEL RELEASED. Bioenergy coppice. Researcher studying plants grown on a short-rotation coppice for the production of wood as fuel. This is part of a project to determine the feasibility of fuelwood as a renewable source of energy. Here, the plants are fed using an environmentally- friendly fertiliser made from sewage sludge. Coppice trees are periodically harvested by cutting to near ground level, which stimulates regrowth of numerous woody stems. The harvested coppice stems are chipped and burnt in special furnaces to release energy in the form of heat. Photographed in Nottinghamshire,England | |
