MODEL RELEASED. Oil refinery worker checking a safety valve on top of a tower in the hydrofining area of an oil refinery. The hydrofining area is where crude oil products are processed to remove impurities such as sulphur. This equipment is part of a SCANfining unit that uses a proprietary catalyst system developed by ExxonMobil, together with Akzo Nobel. SCANfining (Selective Cat Naphtha hydrofining) uses a catalyst called RT-225. It minimises hydrogenation of olefins. This preserves the octane rating of the final petrol or jet fuel products, and also reduces the consumption of hydrogen. Photographed at ExxonMobil's Fawley Oil Refinery,Hampshire,UK | |
