Artist's impression of the SeaStar satellite in orbit. SeaStar is a relatively lightweight (274kg) satellite designed for marine observation. Its instruments will map chlorophyll and phytoplankton production in the oceans for marine dynamics and life science projects. SeaStar will also be able to study water optical properties and quantify suspended sediments. Its prime instrument is the Sea-viewing Wide Field Sensor (SeaWiFS),with a maximum resolution of 1.13 kilometres in Local Area Coverage mode. SeaStar was designed and built by Orbital Services Corp.,and will be launched on OSC's Pegasus vehicle in late 1993 | |
