Ares rocket test. NASA engineer carrying out wind tunnel testing on the Ares I rocket. Ares I will be used to launch the Orion spacecraft, the crew exploration vehicle for NASA's Constellation Program,a US space program announced in 2004. Orion will launch by around 2014,and the program is intended to put astronauts back on the Moon by 2020,and then be used to launch missions to Mars. Sixty-six wind tunnel tests were conducted on a 42-centimetre scale model of the rocket. Wind tunnel tests are used to assess wind flow over the rocket to assess flight performance.
