ISS space walk. Astronaut Robert Curbeam during a mission to add the Destiny laboratory module (centre left) to the International Space Station (ISS). The 8.5-metre-long Destiny is the first of six ISS laboratories. The Space Shuttle Atlantis flew this mission (STS-98,7th-20th February 2001). The ISS is a joint effort between NASA,the European Space Agency,the Russian space agency,Canada,Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres above the Earth,and will be over 100 metres in length. It has been manned from late 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004 | |
