Saluting the flag on the Moon. Astronaut John Young jumps from the lunar surface to salute the US flag after the arrival of the Apollo 16 mission in the Descartes region. The Lunar Module in which Young and astronaut Charles Duke arrived is seen at left,with the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) parked in front. To the right of the Lunar Module is the Far Ultraviolet Camera/Spectrograph instrument. In the background is Stone Mountain. Apollo 16 landed on 21 April 1972 and stayed for 71 hours.
