Lunar module. The lunar module Orion returning to the command module Casper, following its 11-day mission. The lunar landscape,is some 113 kilometres below the module. The crumpled metal sheets (centre left),have buckled due to the stresses caused by takeoff from the Moon's surface. This sort of damage was common, and did not pose any danger to the two astronauts in the module. Photographed at the end of the Apollo 16 mission of 1972 (16-27 April) | |
