Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV). Astronaut Charles Conrad (now called Pete Conrad) flies an LLTV during training for the Apollo 12 mission to the Moon. The LLTV was used to practice landing techniques used by Apollo's lunar module. LLTV training concentrates on the last 2 minutes during an approach to a lunar landing site. The vehicle's systems and the pilot's responses are measured in real time. Apollo 12 (14-24 November 1969),the second mission to land on the Moon, was launched with astronauts Conrad,Richard Gordon and Alan Bean aboard. Conrad and Bean made a landing on 19 November in the Ocean of Storms just 220 metres from their target, the Surveyor 3 lunar probe | |
