Optical image of a portion of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). It shows several bright pink nebulae formed by clouds of hydrogen lit up by recently born hot stars embedded in them. The process of stellar formation is usually accompanied by a strong solar wind. The dense star cloud at top centre is composed of young stars which have already blown away the surrounding interstellar gas. The "bubble" nebula at centre left (N70) is a fine example of a symmetric nebula blown away by the solar wind of newborn stars at its centre | |
