Warped accretion disc. Supercomputer simulation of an accretion disc of dust and gas. Accretion discs form around celestial bodies such as young stars, neutron stars, white dwarves and black holes. Colour represents material density (blue least dense, white most dense). The intense gravitational power of the central object pulls dust and gas inwards to form the accretion disc. Instability between the inner and outer portions of the disc creates a warp which temporarily breaks the disc apart.
