Herbig-Haro 32. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of Herbig-Haro 32 (HH32),a young star ejecting jets of gas into surrounding space. The jets are seen as the blue/green areas at upper and lower centre. The upper jet is heading more towards us. Herbig-Haro objects comprise a young star (centre) onto which gas from its formation is falling in an accretion disc. Some of this gas is ejected as polar jets, which travel at over 300 kilometres per second. These jets plough into the nebula from which the star formed (pink),causing shockwaves which heat them and excite their gas molecules to emit light | |
