Photograph showing the constellation Lyra (the Harp). Lyra is a northern hemisphere constellation, lying just above the galactic plane. The dominant star in this image is Vega (alpha-Lyrae). Running toward bottom left of Vega are zeta-Lyrae and the double star delta-Lyrae. Just above bottom centre are two haloed stars,gamma-Lyrae (left) and beta-Lyrae. Near Vega (toward 10 o'clock) is epsilon-Lyrae which, although appearing as a close binary in this image,is a quadruple star. About half way from Vega to the left centre edge of the frame are theta-Lyrae (lower) and eta-Lyrae. The haloes around some of the stars are photographic effects | |
