Annular solar eclipse. Image 13 of 14. Last contact during an annular solar eclipse. The Moon (lower right) has nearly finished moving across the Sun. This process takes several hours, and at the midpoint may result in a partial, full or annular eclipse. In this case, the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, and this resulted in an annular eclipse where the outer edge of the Sun formed a ring around the Moon. Photographed at 10:50 on 3 October 2005,in Tunisia, two hours and fifty minutes after first contact. For a sequence showing the progress of the Moon across the Sun during this eclipse, see images R506/432 to R506/445 | |
