Annular solar eclipse. Image 9 of 14. One hour and forty minutes after first contact during an annular solar eclipse. The Moon (lower right) has moved across, and is now moving away from, the Sun. This process takes several hours, and at the midpoint may result in a partial, full or annular eclipse. In this case, the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, and this resulted in an annular eclipse where the outer edge of the Sun formed a ring around the Moon. Photographed at 09:40 on 3 October 2005,in Tunisia. For a sequence showing the progress of the Moon across the Sun during this eclipse, see images R506/432 to R506/445 | |
