Annular solar eclipse. Image 5 of 14. One hour after first contact during an annular solar eclipse. The Moon (upper left) is moving in front of the Sun. This process takes several hours, and may result in a partial, full or annular eclipse. In this case, the Moon is at a distant point in its orbit, and this resulted in an annular eclipse where the outer edge of the Sun formed a ring around the Moon. Photographed at 09:00 on 3 October 2005,in Tunisia. For a sequence showing the progress of the Moon across the Sun during this eclipse, see images R506/432 to R506/445 | |
